Chimborazo Trek - Active Tour

Chimborazo Trek, 3 days/2 nights, daily from/to Quito
The Chimborazo trek is one of the most scenic walks in the Ecuadorian Andes. The route goes along the Abraspungo Valley. The giant Chimborazo and its neighbour volcano Carihuairazo dominate the area. They are set in an amazing Andean landscape with llamas and vicuñas. The Chimborazo is the highest summit in Ecuador and its summit is reported to be the farthest point from earth’s center.

Itinerary

Day 1: Quito – Abraspungo Valley
Early drive from Quito to Riobamba. From here you start hiking for approx. 5 hours. You set up your campsite at a place called Plazapamba by a nice brook. Here it is possible, with a bit of luck, to see some Condors and if  the weather permits it, you wioll have excellent views of Chimborazo and Tungurahua. Overnight accommodations in tents. (-/BL/D)

Day 2: Abraspungo Valley
Today you walk through Abraspungo Valley passing small lakes and moorland. After approx. 6-7 hours walking you reach the campsite. (B/BL/D)

Day 3: Glacier Carihuairazo – Quito
Early breakfast and walk to the glacier Carihuairazo. You pass different areas with Andean flora and encounter flocks of llamas. At noon you return to the campsite for lunch. In the afternoon drive back to Quito. (B/BL/-)

What you need to bring: rain gear, headlight, warm clothing, gloves, sleeping bag, backpack, water bottle, sunscreen, sunglasses, brimmed hat, small daypack, camera.

Please note: Although this is a moderate hike, it can be challenging if you are not properly acclimated to the altitude. Do not expect to find perfectly marked hiking trails as you would in the Alps or in US national parks.
