Cotopaxi - Volcano Climbing Tour

4 days/3 nights, daily from/to Quito
The Cotopaxi (5.897 m / 19,347 ft) is the highest active volcano on Earth. With its year-round moderate climate and its beautiful scenery, it is one of the most attractive mountains in the Andes. Summiting Cotopaxi is an unforgettable experience.
 

Itinerary:

Day 1: Quito—Cotopaxi National Park
A two-hour drive takes you to the Cotopaxi National Park. In the Limpiopunga Valley you will pitch your tent at an altitude of 3.800 m / 12,465 ft. In the afternoon you will visit the Inca ruins “El Salitre”. (-/BL/D) 

Day 2: Rumiñahui Vulcano
After breakfast you hike to the volcano Rumiñahui ( 4.698 m / 15,415 ft). You walk through paramo landscape, sand and stone hillsides. Under good weather conditions you are able to see the breathtaking Cotopaxi. With a little bit of luck you can see the rare condor. Afterwards you get back to your campsite. (B/BL/D)

Day 3: José Ribas Shelter (4.800 m / 15,750 ft)
In the morning you ascend to the José Ribas shelter (4 hours). After lunch you ascend further towards the Cotopaxi glacier (5.000 m / 16,405 ft). In the afternoon you get back to the shelter. (B/BL/D)  

Day 4: Cotopaxi -Quito 
Today’s adventure is the six-hour climb to the summit of Cotopaxi (5.897 m /19,347 ft). At midnight you start your adventure. On your way back, you stop for a brief rest at the José Ribas shelter before driving back to Quito. (B/BL/-)
