Driving from Quito towards the westside, you reach Bellavista after a two-hour drive. The Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve encompasses over 688 hectares / 1,700 acres and is surrounded by protected cloud forest. Bellavista is a hotspot for plant and wildlife variety, being ranked among the top ten areas in the world for biodiversity. The area is most notable for its butterflies and over 400 species of birds, many of which you will be able to observe on your three-hour hike through the cloud forest. On your drive back in the afternoon, you have an opportunity to visit the equator monument before returning to Quito. (B/L/-)
