Gareno Lodge - Rainforest Tour in the Amazon Jungle

….in Huaorani Territory

from/to Tena

2 days/1 night
3 days/2 nights
4 days/3 nights
Gareno Lodge, located about 48 miles east of Tena, was named after the Gareno River, which runs through the Huaorani Territory.
This area epitomizes the mystical and wild heart of Ecuador’s primary rainforest. Gareno Lodge was founded through a collaboration between the village of Gareno and the Organización Nacional Huaorani de la Amazonia Ecuatoriana (ONHAE). It is designed as an eco-tourism project and offers its guests the opportunity to experience firsthand the biodiversity of the Huaorani Territory.
The lodge features 4 private cabañas constructed from local materials. They all come standard with a private bath and a balcony with hammock overlooking the Gareno River. This remote rainforest paradise offers adventure without sacrificing comfort and convenience.
All tours take place in the primary rainforest. The lodge organizes day tours with accommodations at the lodge, but for those who seek a more adventurous experience, jungle treks of up to 8 days can be arranged as well, with tent accommodations.

Activities

We can custom-tailor a program just for you. Our guides are very familiar with the fauna and flora of the rainforest. The following activities can be arranged:

  • Rainforest hikes: guided tour (full day, half day, or shorter) to explore the plant life (trees, fruits, medicinal plants etc.) and the wildlife (birds, caimans, tortoises etc.) of the rainforest
  • Bird watching (eagles, falcons, toucans etc.)
  • Night hikes (nocturnal mammals, insects, caimans)
  • Visit to a Huaorani community

Sample Trip Itinerary, 4 days/3 nights

Day 1:
You travel 48 miles along the banks of the Napo River to Gareno Lodge, where you are welcomed with a complimentary cocktail.
Day 2:
After breakfast, you set out on a 4-6 hour guided hike through the rainforest. Your guide will explain plants and animals, Huaorani culture, and medicinal plant use. In the afternoon, you might enjoy fishing or swimming in the river. After dinner, you hike into the night to observe nocturnal mammals and insects.
Day 3:
Early in the morning, you have an opportunity to watch mammals and birds. After breakfast, a visit to the Huaorani village introduces you to Huaorani culture and allows you to purchase beautiful local handmade arts and crafts. You return to the lodge for lunch and get yourself ready for a blow dart competition. After sunset, you can, again, search for insects and caimans before settling down in front of a campfire.
Day 4:
Before breakfast, you have your last chance to do some bird watching before departing the lodge.
