| Cuyabeno Nature Reserve is located in northeastern Ecuador between the San Miguel and the Aguarico rivers. The Ecuadorian rainforest is particularly interesting because of its multitude of rivers and lakes and its plant and wildlife diversity. | |
| This tour is especially suitable for nature lovers and canoeing enthusiasts. You will be able to discover the rainforest in the most natural and exciting way possible: by canoe and on foot along hidden jungle trails, constantly surrounded by the intriguing sounds of the rainforest. You will have the opportunity to observe parrots, toucans, monkeys, piranhas, freshwater dolphins, anacondas, and caimans. | |
Itinerary for 5 days/4 nights (Monday through Friday)
Day 1:
You leave Lago Agrio in the morning for a three-hour ride to the Cuyabeno River at the entrance to the nature reserve. Surrounded by unspoiled tropical rainforest, you paddle downstream along the Cuyabeno River. After about 3 to 5 hours, you arrive at a small campground on the banks of the river where you spend the night.
Day 2:
In the morning, you go for a short hike through the rainforest, or, if you prefer, you may swing through the forest on some of the gigantic lianas hanging from the trees. Your canoe trip continues down the river to Laguna Grande, where you can enjoy a refreshing swim at sunset.
Day 3:
On a four-hour morning hike through the jungle, the wonders and diversity of this unique ecosystem will unfold before your very eyes. Your naturalist guide explains and demonstrates the uses of various medicinal and everyday plants. In the afternoon, you paddle to other lagoons along the Cuyabeno River and have an opportunity to fish for piranhas.
Day 4:
Today’s program includes a visit to the culture center of the Siona nation in Puerto Bolivar. After a one-hour ride in a motorized dugout down the Cuyabeno and a short hike, you reach the indigenous settlement. The Sionas will teach you about their traditions and instruct you in the preparation of their traditional manjok bread. They also like to get their guests involved in a game of soccer or take them down to the river for a swim.
Day 5:
Shortly before sunrise, you embark on a canoe ride along the shores to look for birds. After returning to camp, you pack up and return to the park entrance and from there by bus to Lago Agrio. Arrival in Lago Agrio in the afternoon.
