The only way to reach the Achuar territory is by small plane, in and out of Shell. The Achuar nation is comprised of 64 communities, whose members live in harmony with nature, while also preserving their traditions.

Activities at Kapawi

We offer activity programs that are custom-tailored to our customers’ interests and fitness level (basic: short hikes; intermediate: longer, more demanding hikes; advanced: long hikes). It’s the best way to experience the rainforest. Guests at Kapawi Lodge can choose from the following activities:

Kapawi Lodge is a paradise for bird watchers because the Kapawi area has more different bird species than are found on the entire North-American continent. A birding tour in the early morning hours, when the colorful rainforest birds are most active, is an absolute must for bird enthusiasts.

*** Weather conditions in the rainforest are unpredictable and delays are possible. We recommend that you plan on staying in Shell for an extra day after your Kapawi visit to ensure that you will not miss your scheduled flight out of Shell.
